HMD Global, the company affiliated with Nokia
is now preparing to expand its market aggressively. According to some new
reports, HMD Global is looking forward to expanding its market including India.
The company will be investing heavily in the retail store expansion and
marketing Nokia branded latest 4G mobiles
and would launch some of the new devices in the upcoming days.
The report also said that India is one of the
top three markets for the company to generate revenues. Also, the goal of the
company is not to be the No. 1 brand in India, but their goal is to put their
name in the list of top 5 smartphone makers by the end of the 2018 said by the
CEO of HMD Global Florian Seiche.
He also has added that “This year, we have a
quite ambitious business objective to make an impact in terms of market share
in some of the key markets including India… It is also our obligation now to
invest more in retail presence, consumer engagement and marketing activities
(in India).” However, he did not disclose the amount yet.
In order to increase the market share growth,
the company is also looking forward to launching a 4G feature phone along with
the Nokia 8110 handset in May. They will be partnering with an operator to
launch the smartphone.
Florian Seiche in his interview also had
mentioned that “With 4G feature phone, it is giving those people who prefer the
more traditional phone experience an ability to step into a data world. We
believe that the opportunity is even bigger from the volume perspective in the
feature phone segment,”.
In other words, HMD Global is planning to
launch a 4G feature phone in India in the month of May. The launch will happen
in a collaboration with a telecom operator. Hence, as a result, the device will
be competing with Reliance Jio’s JioPhone. Also both of the companies i.e HMD
Global and Reliance Jio are targeting those 500 million Indians who use basic
phones and did not upgrade to a smartphone because of affordability and other
issues.
If we talk about new smartphone launches, well
the company is planning to launch some new smartphone from the next month’s
beginning. It is said that the company will be launching the Nokia 8 Sirocco,
Nokia 7 Plus, new Nokia 6 and Nokia 1 devices in India.
HMD Global’s Country Head Mr Ajey Mehta said
that “HMD Global has already started discussions with manufacturing partner
Foxconn to ramp up it's manufacturing in the country for existing as well as
new smartphone and feature phones.
Apart from launching new devices, the company
is also focusing to increase the retail store presence by 10%. Currently, there are 110,000 stores and 510
distributors are located in India and the company is planning to increase its
number by 10%.
Ajey Mehta also added that “For us, the
offline channel is a core strength, and it will continue to drive our business.
One of the focus areas this year is to increase the visibility at the point of
sale,”.
Also, the company is not just focusing on the
offline market. Even HMD Global is in talks with the online partners to
increase it’s presence.
According to Mehta “Online is about 30% of the
market, but it is an important part. It plays a very important role. If you
want to be among top players in India, you have to have a good play in
e-commerce and online”.
So let’s just see what the company is planning
for themselves and how they are improving their sales growth.
